What is the Dubai Student Visa?

The Dubai student visa is issued by the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) and allows international students to reside in the UAE for the duration of their studies at an accredited institution.

Unlike most countries, the UAE student visa is typically arranged directly by your university, not applied for independently.

Note: In most cases, your university sponsors and processes your UAE student visa on your behalf. You don’t apply to the government directly.

Types of UAE Student Visas

Not all student visas are the same - here's what applies to you.

University-Sponsored Student Visa

The most common route. Your enrolled university acts as your visa sponsor and processes the student visa on your behalf. Valid for the duration of your program.

Self-Sponsored Student Visa

Available for students whose family members are UAE residents. In this case, the student visa is processed under the family’s residency sponsorship.

Mission Scholarship Visa

For students on government-sponsored scholarships. Processed through the relevant government authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Indian students get an education loan for studying in Dubai?
Yes, several Indian banks and NBFCs offer education loans for study in Dubai for Indian students. Loan eligibility depends on your institution, program, and financial profile. Always check if your lender recognizes your UAE university before applying.
Top universities in UAE include the University of Dubai, American University in Dubai, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, Middlesex University Dubai, SP Jain School of Global Management, and University of Wollongong in Dubai, all accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education.
In contrast to the UK or Australia, the post-study work visa UAE functions differently. UAE lacks a specific post-study work visa program. Nevertheless, once graduates have a job offer, they can then move off a UAE student visa onto an employment visa, and with the boom in Dubai jobs in finance, technology, and hospitality, this can happen sooner than most would think.
Whether you're pursuing an MBA in UAE or a Master's, the visa process is the same; your enrolled university sponsors and processes your Dubai student visa on your behalf. For postgraduate applicants, attested degree certificates are required. Choose a Ministry of Education-accredited institution to ensure smooth visa processing.
The cost of studying in Dubai depends on the university and program you choose. On average, tuition fees for an MBA or Master’s in Dubai range between AED 60,000 and AED 120,000 per year, while living expenses can add another AED 30,000–55,000 annually. Although Dubai may not be the most affordable study destination, its zero income tax and strong career opportunities after graduation make it an attractive option for students focused on long-term career growth.
Since your university manages the Dubai student visa process, a study abroad consultant in UAE or Dubai is less critical for visa processing compared to other destinations. However, consultants add real value in helping you choose the right accredited institution, navigate attestation requirements, and prepare your financial documents, especially if you're applying for an education loan from India.
Student visa interviews are not always required for Dubai, as most applications are processed through your university. However, if asked, questions usually focus on why you want to study in Dubai, your chosen university and course, how you will fund your studies, and your plans after graduation. Your answers should be clear and consistent with your admission and visa documents.
