What is the Dubai Student Visa?

The Dubai student visa is issued by the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) and allows international students to reside in the UAE for the duration of their studies at an accredited institution.

Unlike most countries, the UAE student visa is typically arranged directly by your university, not applied for independently.

Note: In most cases, your university sponsors and processes your UAE student visa on your behalf. You don’t apply to the government directly.

Self-Sponsored Student Visa

Dubai Student Visa Process - Step by Step

Get Accepted by an Accredited UAE University

Secure your offer letter from a UAE Ministry of Education-accredited institution. This is your entry point, without it, nothing moves.

02 University Initiates Your Visa

Unlike other countries, your university sponsors your student visa and submits the application to the ICP on your behalf. You'll receive an entry permit to travel to the UAE.

03 Travel to UAE on Your Entry Permit

Use the entry permit issued by your university to fly into the UAE. This is a temporary document valid for 60 days.

04 Complete Medical Tests in UAE

Upon arrival, complete the mandatory medical fitness test (blood test + chest X-ray) at an approved health centre. This is a UAE residency requirement, not optional.

05 Apply for Emirates ID

Register for your Emirates ID at an ICP centre or approved typing centre. This is your official UAE identification document throughout your stay.

06 Receive Your UAE Student Residence Visa

Once medical tests are cleared and Emirates ID is processed, your UAE student visa residence stamp is issued in your passport. UAE student visas are typically issued for 1 year and must be renewed annually by your university until you complete your program.

07 Purchase Health Insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for all UAE residents. Your university may arrange this or you may need to purchase independently, confirm with your institution.
