Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicants must be full‑time postgraduate students at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington and must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
2. Study must focus on social justice, with particular encouragement for those in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Law, or Restorative Justice.
3. Applicants holding a full three‑year PhD scholarship are not eligible.

Selection Criteria

1. Must be a postgraduate student at Victoria University of Wellington and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
2. Must be studying areas such as prevention of recidivism, minority group representation in courts and prisons, youth crime, or restorative justice.

Application Process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30 pm on the closing date, along with any required supporting documentation, including references. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Award Information

The scholarship is awarded annually and provides NZD 5,000.

Additional Requirements

1. Recipients must submit a report at the end of the scholarship period.
2. Recipients must write a letter of thanks to the Trustees of the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust.
3. The scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
4. The scholarship may be held alongside other awards.
