Scholarship Value and Funding

The Arts PhD Fieldwork Grant provides partial funding of up to AUD 12,000 to support doctoral candidates conducting fieldwork. This grant assists students in gathering primary data for their thesis in a field setting, which may include specific communities, natural settings, native languages, historical sites, or oral histories.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be enrolled and confirmed in a PhD in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne. Candidates must use fieldwork as their primary research methodology with strong support from their Advisory Committee. Additionally, applicants must have an approved Research Expenses Plan at Confirmation of Candidature and meet all relevant University policies regarding research integrity, student travel, and academic progress.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee evaluates applications based on how well the methodology meets fieldwork guidelines. The proposed fieldwork must be essential and integral to the thesis, and the Research Expenses Plan must have been approved at Confirmation of Candidature.
