David Day Award at Victoria University of Wellington 2026

The David Day Award, established by alumnus David Day, provides NZD 5,000 in partial funding for postgraduate research in conservation biology, ecology, or biodiversity. The scholarship supports both Masters and PhD candidates conducting field‑based or laboratory research in these disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be enrolled full‑time or part‑time in a Masters or PhD program that focuses on conservation biology and/or the study of ecology and biodiversity.

Selection Criteria

Recipients are chosen based on the merit of their research proposal and academic record. The award aims to assist with project‑related costs and encourage leadership in the field.

Application Process

Submit a completed online application by the deadline of 30 April 2026. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered. The application is submitted through the official Victoria University of Wellington scholarship portal.

Award Details

The scholarship provides Partial Funding, NZD 5,000. Funds are intended to cover research expenses, travel, or related costs.

Obligations for Recipients

The award includes specific responsibilities:

1. The recipient must write a letter of thanks to the donor.
2. Recipients act as ambassadors for the Centre for Biodiversity and Restoration Ecology and may be asked to participate in events or promotional activities.
3. A written report must be submitted to the donor one year after the award is received.
