German Medical Students' Association – Professional Exchange/Research Exchange 2026

Programme Description: The German Medical Students' Association (bvmd) arranges over 400 internships abroad each year. Students can participate in a clinical traineeship exchange, a research internship, or a public health exchange. Clinical traineeships are placed in teaching hospitals, while research internships are arranged in varying working groups. Public health exchanges are set up with health organisations and government institutions. The programme supports students who wish to gain practical experience abroad.

Eligibility for the German Medical Students' Association – Professional Exchange/Research Exchange programme:

• The candidates applying should have enrolled themselves at a German institution of higher education.
• The background of the candidates should be in subject areas related to medicine.
• Successful applicants will be arranged a medical traineeship or a research internship.

Academic Requirements: Students enrolled at a German medical university can only apply for the clinical traineeship exchange after completing the 4th semester or 6th trimester. For research and public health exchanges, students in medical-related study programmes may also apply from the 1st semester. In the case of the clinical traineeship exchange, a clinical traineeship must have already been completed by the time you start your traineeship abroad.

Scholarship value: Full Funding, accommodation + travel allowance + insurance.
