University Postgraduate Award (UPA) at University of Wollongong 2026

The University of Wollongong (UOW) offers the University Postgraduate Award (UPA) for domestic and international students pursuing Higher Degree Research (HDR) programs. This scholarship is available for Masters and PhD candidates across all HDR subject areas.

Scholarship Value and Funding

The UPA provides partial funding through an annual stipend. For 2026, full-time candidates receive a non-taxable stipend of $36,943 per annum, which is indexed annually. Part-time award holders receive an approved part-time stipend rate, which is not tax-exempt. Additionally, recipients may benefit from concurrent awards alongside the primary stipend.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be enrolled in a Higher Degree Research program at the University of Wollongong.
• Admission can be full-time or part-time.
• International applicants must satisfy visa requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs.
• Candidates must not hold an equivalent scholarship or salary providing a benefit exceeding 75% of the UPA value.
