John Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington 2025

This scholarship provides Partial Funding of NZD 7,500 to support architecture study at Victoria University of Wellington. It is available to Bachelors, Masters, and PhD candidates who are in their fourth year or higher, including those completing a fourth‑year undergraduate program and planning postgraduate study.

Eligibility

1. The scholarship is open to students in their fourth year or higher in architecture, covering Masters and PhD candidates. Undergraduate students in their fourth year who have completed all third‑year core papers—or have equivalent credit or experience—are also eligible if they intend to pursue postgraduate study at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
2. Applicants must be enrolled in an architecture degree or research programme at the university and meet the academic progression requirements outlined above.

Selection Criteria

1. Candidates must be in their fourth year or higher and registered in an architecture degree or research programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
2. Undergraduate applicants must have completed all third‑year core papers or have equivalent credit/experience and must intend to pursue postgraduate study, with full enrolment in a full‑year programme during the scholarship year.

Application Process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30 pm on 1 October 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted, and all supporting documentation—including references—must be received by the same deadline.

Award Details

The scholarship provides NZD 7,500 and is typically awarded annually in November by the Head of the School of Architecture. Recipients are expected to prepare project outcomes suitable for presentation to students, professionals, and the public, while fostering NZ‑UK architectural connections and benefiting from cross‑cultural experiences.

1. The award cannot be deferred to a later year.
2. The scholarship may be held alongside other awards.
3. Recipients must write a thank‑you letter to the donors.
4. The Fitzgerald family and Holden & Partners may assist with practical arrangements such as accommodation, hosting, advice, networking, or local transportation.
