The Kahui Legal Excellence Scholarship, funded by Kahui Legal and Taihonoa, supports Māori students undertaking a Bachelor of Law at Victoria University of Wellington. It provides financial assistance for fees or other course‑related costs to those who demonstrate academic excellence in their first year.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicants must whakapapa as Māori.
2. Applicants must be enrolled as full‑time students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.

Selection Criteria

1. Applicants must be Māori and enrolled full‑time at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
2. Preference is given to students studying te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, or courses that incorporate a mātauranga Māori perspective.

Application Process

A completed online application must be submitted by the closing date of 31 March 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Award Details

The scholarship is valued at NZD 5,000 and is paid as a single instalment. It contributes toward tuition fees or other course‑related expenses and is tenable for one academic year, with the possibility of re‑application.

Additional Notes

1. The scholarship is renewable annually for one year, provided the recipient continues full‑time study.
2. Payments cease if the student reduces to part‑time study.
3. Recipients are encouraged to contribute positively to the University marae by volunteering time to support the Māori community at Te Herenga Waka.
