The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) 2026 is a partial tuition fee award designed for high-achieving non-EU/EEA Master's students. The scholarship provides funding of up to €19,000 toward tuition costs, though it does not cover full tuition fees in their entirety.

Eligibility Criteria

• Study Program: Open to full-time Master's programs across All courses offered by the university except Law. Specific exclusions include Humanities, LLM non-advanced, and MSc programs at Leiden Law School.
• Nationality: Non-EEA/EFTA students are eligible, with exceptions for certain programs such as LLM Advanced Studies and MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy. UK students are also eligible.
• Academic Performance: Applicants must typically rank in the top 10% of their previous study program.

Benefits and Value

• The scholarship covers partial tuition fees in award levels of €10,000, €15,000, €17,500, €18,500, or €19,000.
• Recipients must still demonstrate sufficient funds for a student visa, as the award does not cover full tuition or living costs.

Application Process

1. Submit an online application for a Master's program at Leiden University and pay any required application fees.
2. After admission application submission, return to the "Apply" screen and select "Scholarships" to apply specifically for LExS.
3. Upload a motivation letter, limited to a maximum of 500 words, explaining the reason for application.
4. Meet the deadline of December 1, 2026; late applications will not be accepted.
5. Selection occurs through faculty nomination, with applicants notified by the end of April.
