Macmillan Brown Prize for Writers 2025

The prize is awarded by the University of Canterbury for original creative work—essays, short stories, poems, or short plays—up to 2,500 words.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduates at the University of Canterbury or have graduated no more than three years before the application deadline.

Submissions must be original and unpublished or previously published.

Benefits

Financial assistance is provided as follows:

  • First Prize – $2,000
  • Second Prize – $1,000
  • Third Prize – $500
