Senior Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine 2017

The Wellcome Trust offers Senior Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine for the 2017 academic year, specifically targeting researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

Eligibility criteria

• Applicants must be nationals of a low- or middle-income country.
• Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or a medical degree, or possess a Master’s degree with substantial research experience.
• Eligibility to enter higher specialist clinical training is required.
• Postdoctoral research experience of five to twelve years is mandatory.
• Applicants must demonstrate a strong research track record and significant progress toward establishing an independent investigator career.
• A research proposal within the public health and tropical medicine remit is required.
• A sponsorship from an eligible host organization in a low- or middle-income country is required.
• Researchers in India currently applying for another Wellcome Trust fellowship are ineligible.

Selection criteria

• Selection is based on the applicant’s research track record.
• Proposals are evaluated on quality and importance of the research question.
• The suitability of the research environment is also considered.

Value of the fellowship

The fellowship provides a basic salary, personal removal costs, and research expenses. Funding is fully covered for the duration of the award.
