Wilderlab eDNA Scholarship 2025 at Victoria University of Wellington

This scholarship provides full funding for a Master’s or PhD student conducting research in ecology, conservation, biodiversity, or restoration ecology. The award includes a complete eDNA sampling kit and sequencing analysis for 24 samples, valued at NZD 7,000 + GST, to be used within two years.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enrol full-time or part-time in postgraduate studies focused on ecology, conservation, biodiversity, or restoration ecology. The opportunity is open to all nationalities.

Application Process

Proposals are accepted annually in September through the Centre for Biodiversity and Restoration Ecology. Inquiries should be directed to SBS-admin@vuw.ac.nz. The application deadline is 30 September 2025.

Selection Criteria

Applications are evaluated based on research alignment and merit. Recipients must submit a research proposal that complements the scholarship’s focus areas.

Award Details

The scholarship provides one eDNA kit and sequencing support. Recipients are required to:

1. Write a letter of thanks to the donor.
2. Provide a written report within one year of receiving the award.
3. Act as an ambassador for the Centre for Biodiversity and Restoration Ecology, including participation in events or marketing if requested.

Reporting Requirements

Awardees must credit Wilderlab and the Centre for Biodiversity and Restoration Ecology in all communications and acknowledge the use of the eDNA kit and sequencing services within two years of award.
