• Stamp 2A (Study Permission without Work Rights): This permission is not reckonable for Long-Term Residency.
• Stamp 1G (Third Level Graduate Programme): Time spent on the post-study work visa does not count toward Long-Term Residency calculations.
• Individuals participating in the Working Holiday Visa Scheme are not eligible to use this permission toward Long-Term Residency.
• Foreign embassy and diplomatic staff generally cannot qualify through their diplomatic permission.
• Individuals residing under certain Business Permissions may not qualify for Long-Term Residency.
• Time spent under the Irish Born Child (IBC and IBC-05) Scheme does not count toward Long-Term Residency.

Studying in Ireland can still lead to long-term settlement, but the pathway is indirect:

1. Study in Ireland on a Stamp 2 student permission.
2. Move to a Stamp 1G Graduate Visa after completing your degree.
3. Secure a qualifying job and obtain an employment permit, such as a Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) or General Employment Permit (GEP).
4. Transition to Stamp 1 employment status.
5. Time spent on qualifying employment permissions can then count toward Long-Term Residency eligibility.

Application Process for an Ireland PR

1. Check your eligibility

3. Prepare and submit supporting documents

In general, you will need to provide documentation that includes:

• Work permit information (if applicable)

• Employment and Benefits Documents

Ireland PR Processing Time

Once you pay the fee, the INIS will start processing your application. It will normally be completed within 6 – 8 months. Some applications might take longer to process due to special circumstances like biometric authentication failure or ineligibility. 

Ireland PR Renewal

The validity of an Ireland PR is 5 years. You must renew it every 5 years to stay in Ireland by submitting another PR application.

• Submit the required documents 
• Click “Renew Your Registration” 
• You will get a unique application number (OREG number) via email. Provide it and wait for the new IRP card (Immigration Residence Permit).
